I keep my eyes open for neat gardening gift ideas since we live in a rural area and most of my neighbors, friends and family garden. Here are two gardening gift ideas I have used over and over because they turn out so nice:

1 - Plant labels: Make tiny wooden stakes or you can use paint stir sticks. Paint them with stripes, polka dots or if you have a good hand, with bugs and critters. Include a paint pen with the sticks when you give it so the gardener can mark the sticks according to his/her own choices.

2 - Decorated hand tools: I can't tell you how many perfectly good gardening tools I have picked up at auctions and estate sales. I give the handles a light sanding and then spray paint them in fun colors. Sometimes I have added stripes or even decoupaged stickers onto the handle.
