Cheap Gift for Kid or Teen

Do you need a cheap gift for a kid or teen you know? Check out these that I use for my own children and young brothers and sisters. I even have ideas for affordable kid gift baskets. Take a look:

  • Buy tickets for the two of you to attend a concert or sporting event.
  • For the entrepreneur, find a nice used briefcase. Inside put a calculator, book of kids business ideas or a book on finances like Rich Dad, Poor Dad, and a set of business cards you have ordered from a local office supply store. If this child or teen doesn’t have a business yet, just put their name and contact info with a special design.
  • Buy a write on – wipe off message board to hang on the bedroom door and a set of markers to go with it.
  • Find an indoor or outdoor mountable basketball hoop.
  • Dress a stuffed animal in their school colors and make a tiny card that says, “Go team!” or “Three Cheers for (name)!”
  • Buy a piñata and stuff it full of candy and small toys.

  • Sign them up for a class they will enjoy like swimming, dancing, tennis, rock climbing, drawing, etc.
  • Fill a giant pail with small outdoor fun activities. For example: jacks, bubbles, jump rope, sidewalk chalk, ball or bean bag, etc.
  • Buy a cookbook for kids or teens and put it in the pocket of a new apron or in a mixing bowl with the ingredients to make one of the recipes.
  • Find a one or two man pop-up tent. Even city dwellers will have fun setting one of these up as a fort or for sleeping in the backyard.
  • Put together a bath time basket with bubble bath, soap crayons, no-tears shampoo, toys, mit or washcloth, robe, slippers and/or towel. For a teen you can substitute a soothing CD or bath pillow for the toys and get an herbal shampoo instead. You could even make most of these items by hand to save more.
  • Find a book on collecting postcards, coins, stamps, paper dolls, autographs, geological specimens, etc. Start off the collection with a few items and present them with the book.
